The Story: A Kingdom Divided

December 28, 2015
Kings "R" Us

Kings “R” Us

Location: Toys R Us at Alderwood Mall

  • As I read this week’s chapter of The Story, I got the sense that almost all of the kings were playing king more than being They invented their own rules and didn’t even try to make it real.
  • They were more concerned about their own houses than about the house of God, even when they had all the building blocks to build a Kingdom that would please God.
  • The kings followed each other in rapid sequence. And king after king – with only one exception – outdid the previous kings when it came to playing sinister games.
  • Of course it starts with the people of Israel not playing nice with each other… “If you are going to play mean, I don’t want to play with you.” No problem, just get another doll house, and everyone can do exactly as they please.
  • One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Mark 3:23-25 “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
  • And as I was strolling through Toys R Us, I got more and more anxious. All the toys I saw are aimed at being stronger, more powerful, more beautiful, smarter… Barbie, Star Wars, Legos… However hard I looked, I did not find anything that said “you are a child of God and you are loved just as you are” or “it is not about you, but about Jesus.”
