The Story: Grace Comes First

October 19, 2015
  • With All Your Heart

    With All Your Heart

A driver’s license proves that you know the rules, and that you are able to obey them. When you make a mistake, or worse – when you disobey the rules on purpose – you endanger not just yourself, but you also endanger those around you. This is similar to not obeying God’s commands. The havoc may be less visible and it may take longer for the consequences to reveal themselves, but they will be there. And they will manifest themselves in your life and the lives of those around you.

  • God will not love you any less just because you broke the rules, or even got into an accident. He is sad when that happens, but His grace is abundant and He will forgive us our sins again and again and again.
  • The hearts on the licenses symbolize the two commands that are at the core of all the others: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? ’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” Matthew 22:36-40 New International Version
  • For how many teenagers is a driver’s license a false idol? And for how many people – regardless of their age – is their car a false idol?
  • Are you giving your heart to Jesus? Do you gladly and joyfully try to obey His rules to the best of your ability? And what are the false idols that stand in your way?
