A Great Security System

Captive

Captive

Location: Jacob’s Well, Shoreline

  • God is “Our Father, who is in Heaven.” And for Catholics, Jesus’ mom is “Mother Mary.” This is a source of comfort for Christians.
  • Single-parent families have become more prevalent over the past several decades. Today, one-third of American children – a total of 15 million – are being raised without a father. Nearly five million more children live without a mother (source:http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/the-number-of-children-living-in-single-parent-homes-has-nearly-doubled-in)
  • The people living at Jacob’s Well have been fortunate enough to have found a home. But in many cases they have not found an intact family.
  • Ninety percent of single-parent families are headed by females. Not surprisingly, single mothers with dependent children have the highest rate of poverty across all demographic groups […]. Approximately 60 percent of U.S. children living in mother-only families are impoverished, compared with only 11 percent of two-parent families (http://www3.uakron.edu/schulze/401/readings/htm)
  • While the residents of Jacob’s Well are free to come and go as they please, they can be held captive by fear. Fear of being homeless again. Fear of financial uncertainty. Fear of people. Fear of being abandoned. Fear of violence.
  • As Christians, we can model that security does not come in the form of a surveillance camera watching them, but our Father in Heaven watching over them.
