God is Not Impressed

I was recently at a conference where the speaker said, “God is not impressed by what we do but he is easily pleased.” Think on that line for a few minutes. Nothing we do causes God to think any more highly of us – he is not impressed. However, anything we do as an expression of our desire to be in relationship with him causes him great delight – he is easily pleased. His unconditional love frees us from obligation and duty and invites us to enjoy his presence in every detail of our lives.

“God is not impressed by what we do but he is easily pleased.”

This thought couples wonderfully with this prayer from the Book of Common Prayer:

O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

May we enjoy the pleasure of the Father. It is his blessing upon us.

Thanks, Phil. Reading this sent me on a search, concordance in hand, for those instances where scripture says God “delights” in us–they are many. A “delight”ful was to begin this beautiful day!

I love this message! GOD is easily pleased our sincere expression toward him.
Thank you for being our pastor!
