Unbelievable about Indescribable

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

These are the words to Chris Tomlin’s song, “Indescribable”. If you have ever sung it, you know it is a very powerful and moving experience. Maybe that is what made my experience so surprising.

I was sitting in a room of about 300 church leaders and we were wrapped in the power of this song. As we neared the conclusion, about the 4th time through this chorus with a beautiful animated background on the screen, the person next to me pulled out his cell phone. I thought to  myself, awestruck we fall our knees and we humbly proclaim, “I need my technology fix”. Seriously!

If we want worship to be more meaningful, we have got to learn how to shut off the other stuff in our lives. We need to practice letting go of the busyness and the stressors. We need to zero in our focus on the face of God. We need to turn off the phones, forget about when the game starts, or what else we have to get done for the day. There is no greater task in a day than to worship God.

How many minutes a day are you disconnected from the world so you can connect with God. Very few calendar programs encourage you to schedule time with God. If we don’t focus our attention on God, words that describe our worship will be more like “intrusive, unbelievable, unimpressive; you are a very small god.”

I know there are some amazing apps out there, but please don’t turn your heart from the face of the Father to the face of your phone. You don’t need a phone to connect when you are on your knees!
